About this tour

Embark on a fascinating journey through Armenia’s rich history, where the remnants of its exotic Pagan past meet the enduring legacy of Christianity. This tour offers a deep dive into the ancient and spiritual heritage of Armenia, providing a unique window into the country’s cultural evolution.

Tour Highlights:

  • Charent’s Arch: Begin your tour at this scenic viewpoint, named after the beloved Armenian poet Eghishe Charents. The arch offers breathtaking views that Charents himself frequently admired, setting the perfect tone for your journey.
  • Geghard Monastery: Your next stop is the awe-inspiring Geghard Monastery, a 13th-century complex that stands as a testament to Armenia’s Golden Age of architecture. The monastery is named after the lance that pierced Jesus Christ, which was brought to Armenia and safeguarded here for centuries. The most remarkable feature of Geghard is its rock-cut churches, carved directly into the mountainside following traditional Armenian architectural principles. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Geghard Monastery is a must-see for any visitor.
  • Garni Temple: Continue your journey to the iconic Garni Temple, dating back to 77 A.D. This is the only standing pagan temple in the entire post-Soviet region, perched on a high plateau with stunning views over the Azat River Gorge. The site also includes the ruins of a 3rd-century royal palace and a Greek-Roman bathhouse adorned with a mosaic made from 30,000 natural stones, transporting you back to ancient times.
  • Lavash Masterclass at a Local Restaurant: A short walk from Garni Temple brings you to a charming local restaurant with a fantastic view of the temple. Here, you can unwind and participate in a masterclass where you’ll taste freshly baked lavash, the traditional Armenian flatbread, and immerse yourself in the local culinary tradition.

This tour is a perfect blend of Armenia’s pagan and Christian history, set against the backdrop of its stunning natural landscapes. It’s an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of Armenia’s cultural and spiritual journey.
