Itinerary

Stop 1 – Khor Virap Monastery

We begin our journey with a visit to Khor Virap — one of Armenia’s most sacred landmarks. Located just steps from the Turkish border, it offers one of the best panoramic views of Mount Ararat. But the true story lies beneath — in the deep pit where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for 13 years. This very site played a key role in Armenia becoming the first Christian nation in 301 AD.

Stop 2 – Saint Hripsime Church

Next, we arrive in Vagharshapat, where the Church of Saint Hripsime stands — a gem of early Christian architecture. Built in the 7th century over the tomb of the martyr Hripsime, this site blends history and serenity. Its perfect proportions and strong symbolism have earned it a place in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Stop 3 – Echmiadzin Mother Cathedral

We then step into the spiritual heart of Armenia — the Echmiadzin Cathedral. Founded in the 4th century, it is the world’s first Christian cathedral. You’ll visit the Treasury Museum inside, where relics, manuscripts, golden crosses, and sacred garments are carefully preserved. Legend tells us this is where Christ descended in a vision, marking the spot to build the church.

Stop 4 – Saint Gayane Church

A short walk brings us to the Saint Gayane Church, built in 630 AD. It honors another brave Christian martyr and showcases classical Armenian architecture with elegant stonework and a peaceful atmosphere. The relics of Saint Gayane are still kept within its walls.

Stop 5 – Zvartnots Temple Ruins

We end our journey among the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Zvartnots — the “Temple of the Vigilant Forces”. Built in the 7th century, it once stood as a symbol of grandeur and innovation in Armenian architecture. Though destroyed by an earthquake, the remaining columns and base speak volumes of its lost magnificence.
